I would suggest using AHA or BHA products.
The benefit of them is to exfoliate skin. Because AHAs and BHA work through chemical processes, they can penetrate the skin and produce better results than scrubs products, which work only on the exposed surface of the skin. And, there is no risk that AHAs and BHA will cause you to lose too much skin. Technically, there is a drop-off rate, meaning the AHA and BHA will exfoliate just the dead or damaged surface skin and leave the healthy skin alone. This is the main reason why you will see a drop-off in performance when using an AHA or BHA product. The dramatic results in the beginning of usage (when the thickened, discolored layers of skin are being removed) seem much more impressive than the results from continued use. This is to be expected, and it is important to note that continued use of an AHA or BHA product is required in order to maintain skin鈥檚 smooth, even-toned, healthy appearance.
I have tried out many different types of AHA/BHA products and I would personally suggest a face peel that I am currently using because it gives me the best result. It comes with step 1 AHA peel and step 2 neutralizer peel. And I like the neutralizer peel step because it helps smooth out the irritation from AHA peel. All the AHA products I used in the past didn't have this step so my face looks red and itchy in a couple days. But with this face peel, my face looks a little bit red but the next day it becomes normal and it feels smoother. I have acne prone skin and thus there are many acne marks which I dislike them very much. And after using this product, I am so happy to see my acne marks have been lighten up. But I wouldn't suggest you to use this product during day time because skin after AHA treatment might feel sensitive under sun exposure. I always use the peel at night and I use it every other day to give my skin some rest.
You can check out the follow link for this face peel information. I do believe they have 30 days return guarantee.

I hope you find my information helpful. Is there any masks to lighten up my face?
I heard lemon helps to clear dark spots, but don't forget it's acid, so be really carefull if you decide to apply it! just apply a little bit on the dark spots (not the whole face!) and don't go out to the sun if you have it on.
Luck :-)
