Used to be plaster of paris cast with laytex poured in ; now seems to be mainly cold pour alginates - will go off and come back with some references - first three links are for make-up artists - special FX. Last ref is historical in case it is medical that interests you. What are prosthetic masks made of and how are they manufactured?
They are made from Latex generally, and are not used for long periods of time as they are rather uncomfortable due the the heat it generates- basically makes you sweat! They can be made as strong as you like and made up of layers.
