What is the point of the eye masks that people wear to sleep?

Maybe it's a stupid question, but really, why do people wear those eye mask things to bed? What purpose do they serve?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I really have no clue where it should go.)What is the point of the eye masks that people wear to sleep?
If you are talking about the ones that are cloth, then it's used to seal out all light.

When sleeping, if there is any light seeping through your lids, it can make falling asleep much more difficult. So, if you have an alarm clock with red light, it will be more difficult to fall asleep.

If you are referring to the eye masks that are cold or w/e, then those are used to help reduce puffiness in the under eye area, and can help with dark under eye circles. What is the point of the eye masks that people wear to sleep?
People use sleep masks to black out ambient light from windows, door cracks, clocks, etc. There are also people that use blackout curtains to cover these light sources so they can sleep without a mask. It's much more comfortable than sleeping with a mask on.
When I am trying to fall asleep I ennd up looking around and It keeps me up so you ccan use them for that Also there is a light right outside my window and it gets bright so they block out light and they just give a warm fuy feeling inside
a. they dont want to be bothered

b. they dont like how stupid they look when they sleep so they cover it up

c. it makes them go to sleep, cuz that way they can't look around and stuff

d. they want to feel cool.
I have always wondered this. But my best guess is to bring down swelling in the eyes, I get the impression that they serve about the same purpose as putting cucumbers on your eyes.
People wear them to block out light. Some people are light sleepers and don't sleep well when there is any light in their room.
i use one on weekends cause it keeps the sun out
some people like to sleep when it pitch black.
to block out all light. they sleep better that way.
