What psychology might casue a person to be obsessed with masks?

Particularly masked characters such as bands?What psychology might casue a person to be obsessed with masks?
IN some cultures masks are thought to have a life of their own, and wearing a mask allows the life of that mask to be lived through the person. I have some experience of this and it is strangely powerful to wield another face. I imagine it is about allowing inner aspects of oneself to be expressed through a medium which holds anonymity. Being something which you are while not being see as you.


Almost as if the known you, is not responsible or accountable for the behavior done while wearing the mask.


As the watcher of someone wearing a mask, it is also imaginative wildfire, it could be anyone up there playing guitar or drums.


I imagine it frees people up to believe or imagine what they desire, the reality is probably the people behind the masks are quite ordinary.What psychology might casue a person to be obsessed with masks?
Narcissism, metaphorically speaking.
