Will masks really protect against contracting the swine flu virus?

I know it keeps people from spreading it, but does it actually protect someone who isn't sick from contracting the virus? Will masks really protect against contracting the swine flu virus?
The right type of mask must be worn, or the mask itself might expose you to dangerous particles. You will need something like the N95 respirator masks filter out 95% of particles to prevent the wearer from breathing them in. These must be fitted properly around the nose to create a seal, so they can make breathing difficult. More expensive mask with advanced certified N99 filters are even more effective! Will masks really protect against contracting the swine flu virus?
Masks could be helpful if someone is infected to keep the disease from spreading. To keep yourself from getting infected the mask would have to be like a gas mask to filter out the airborne contaminants. That in itself can only be effective if the gas mask can filter out small enough airborne contaminants. That was something I was facetiously insinuating with getting hazard suits from 3 Mile Islands surplus and glowing in the dark. I mentioned earlier that keeping clean would be a big factor in protecting yourself. If you're still concerned contact a physician and ask advice or find a physician's website and ask about viral contamination and measures to protect yourself.
The answer is yes. The masks do help. The primary method of transmission of the virus from human to human is through contact of the mouth %26amp; nose. The masks protects both. However, it is possible to contract the virus through contact of your eyes. Therefore washing hands and wrists are important whether you have masks on or off. Contracting Swine flu is no different from contracting any other seasonal flu, the difference is that there is no natural immunity to Swine Flu as of yet and no vaccince
Masks are not a 100% prevention method. They only reduce the likelihood of contracting the virus, or passing it onto others. It also largely depends on the type of masks you use.

Respirator masks are the best kind. They block small particles from entering. Amazon has some good deals on these.

Yes. The mask and rubber gloves (disposable) can be your first line of defense of public exposure. People might look at you like you're weird, but oh well :)
yes it just for precaution for us as we don't know how the virus can effect seriously
It's not 100% but does reduce the chance by a large amount.

Michael...
they will help a little. it would be better if the infected people wear them.
