Well, those flimsy little masks won't stop you from breathing in virus particles, but they'll stop you from sneezing them out all over everybody else. It's better than nothing.
Few governments have the money it would take to buy, stockpile, and distribute enough N95 masks for the entire populace. Mexico certainly doesn't have that kind of cash.
They company that makes the correct masks was on siesta break.

mexico city has a population of 22 million. They have enough money for 1 million pills. They don't have the money, they are doing what they can. Mexico isn't a wealthy country.
how do you know they dont have those ratings.
I fear it is too late to stop its spread. The end of the world is near.
because it makes them appear that they are trying to help. N95's are very expensive, and usually only healthcare workers and necessary infrastructure people get them.
