Do all fighter jets require to wear oxygen masks?

You keep the mask up because that's where the microphone is. USAF requires oxygen above 10,000/5,000 at night. Fighters use an isobaric-differential (altitude - 6,000/2), so the above example of 30K would have a cockpit altitude of 12,000 [not 25].

And the other answer was right, Top Gun was a nice comedy.Do all fighter jets require to wear oxygen masks?
The rule is - if you fly over 12,500 for more than 30 minutes, you need to have oxygen. Since all fighter jets are designed to fly well over 12,500, they all have oxygen systems and yes, most fighter pilots will use the oxygen from the time they set up until the time they land.

If you watch Top Gun (or other Hollywood versions of fighters), the pilots take off the masks to ';chat'; on the radio - this is very unrealistic.

Pure oxygen rocks!Do all fighter jets require to wear oxygen masks?
Yes and for the following reasons:-

1) Breathing 100% oxygen (no outside air) - when starting up, when canopies are open during marshalling and taxying, while taking off, initial climb and final descent. This prevents contaminated air generated by other aircraft from being breathed by the pilot.

2) Normal position - to get the correct air/oxygen ratio during other phases of flying.
In a Commercial airlines the cabin altitude remains at 8000ft even when it is flying at an altitude of 34000 ft. However in a fighter cockpit the cabin differential is much less and the altitude remais close to the actual flying alt. Eg Fighter at 30000 Ft the cockpit alt will be close to 25000 Ft. Therefore all fighter pilots will require oxygen as any body exposed to more than 10000 Ft requires the same.

I can only speak on behalf of Navy fighter jets...obviously anytime you're over 10k oxygen has to be used but in accordance to the Navy's OPNAV 3710, all fighter aircraft are required to wear oxygen from takeoff to landing....thats not to say that Navy fighter pilots always follow that rule though...
With the amount of G force involved in these fighters, it would be wise to have one on so that you can catch your breath while getting high.
anything above 10,000 ft requires oxygen...most fighters can go 40,000 ft and some 60K
YES since the c/p is presureized it does not mean that there is enough O2 for the pilot.

Thats why there is OBOGS (on board oxygen generating system) or LOX bottles in all fighters
I believe so cause the higher you go up in the sky, the harder it is to breathe. =O
yes because if your that high in the air its very hard to breathe.
yes
