In which museums or art galleries in England can I see some masks?

I'm not fussy really, I just need to see some masks for my art A level project. North or especially Northeast England would be most appreciated, but any ideas you have really, I can get on a train. :P Any sorts of masks or disguises from any culture, modern of antique, would be appreciated, but especially where there is a collection from a certain culture, by a certain artist, or based around a certain theme. Thanks in advance! In which museums or art galleries in England can I see some masks?
Museum of anthropology Cambridge. There has recently been an excellent exhibition of masks in the arts centre in Armagh, Northern ireland. ( called I think the Marketplace Theatre ) Perhaps they could put you in touch with the man who collected them. You might look him up under the heading ';John Hewitt Summer School'; He would be a good contact even if the exhibition is over.,In which museums or art galleries in England can I see some masks?

Many local museums have a few masks on display.

The British Museum in London is the best place I know of though.
The pitt rivers museum in Oxford has a good selection of anthropological artifacts so should have some masks, there is also the museum of archaeology and anthropology in cambridge which also has a photographic archive of about 30,000 items.

Sorry that these aren't in the north east/north but i'm not familiar with museums in thata area.

Having a quick search via yahoo, Leeds university has a selection of anthropologicl artifacts including masks some of which might be on show at the leeds university gallery. Others are on loan to leeds museum and galleries. Have a search using the word anthropology and museum plus and cities you can get to. Some small museums may have a collection you didn't know about!

hope this helps
You are probably thinking of masks as in the masqued balls of the 17th and 18th centuries. Venice must have a very large collection of masks. They still have masqued balls from time to time.
